After thinking where do you want to spend your exchange experience, you chose Ghana as your next destination. Congratulations, you chose the perfect place to explore and to develop in.
So when you first hear "Ghana" you start to think of African country, animals, safari, famines, naked people living in deserts and forests, football, very high temperature and burning sun...
Actually i would like to disappoint you, Ghana is totally different from all these stereotypes. The sun is not there almost all the time, it was heavily raining at least 3 times a week (I was there in July). People there are working really hard everyday to get money and food, i didn't find any famines even in the very poor villages (Although i wasn't lucky to visit the north of Ghana). And for the animals, actually no there is no lions there, so you won't be eaten. You can go for walks in national parks even sleep there, you always have a guide to help you so it's safe (Not safe from bugs and snakes unfortunately but by the time these bugs will be your friends).
So if you really want to know about Ghana and Ghanians; you have to go there and stay for few weeks. You will be surprised how they are crazy about music, everywhere they play music and you can see people dancing all around. Even during the funerals they play music and dance which was totally different from Egypt. They know how to party even during their work if it is possible to dance. It's a must to try their traditional dance and the Azonto dance, even you have to learn how to dance and i promise you will be addicted to it.
You should walk a lot in the streets and see how people are calling you "Obruni" (White) everywhere and specially the small kids. How amazing are the kids' smiles and when they run to you and hold your hand, it's like a victory for them to hold your hand and walk next to you for 2 minutes, you can see the happiness in their eyes. You should stay with the Ghanian family at least for one night, you will experience how life is so simple and how they enjoy everything they have, on the other hand you might have the same things and you have never thought that you can use it. Ghanian people are very friendly, like to chat with you and really cares about your nationality. You have to go into the streets and talk with people in different subjects (when they don't ask to sell something or treat you as a tourist they are awesome to have a conversation with). Ghanian people are very connected to their churches, you should join them one day, although you don't understand anything but you will feel their spirit. Having a Ghanian friend who is always calling you and sending you messages to make sure you are fine, if you need help and always asking you to meet him/her; sometimes it turns to be like stalking but you feel how people are happy and excited to meet you.
You should spend one night in a rainforest, you will be able to listen to hundreds of sounds around you bugs, animals, birds and trees. Spend one night without electricity very far away from the city and be in the middle of the nature; You will feel the meaning of relaxing.
After your amazing experience in Ghana, you go back home and get back to your busy city where there is cars everywhere, horns all the time, people always in a hurry, nobody is smiling ... When you look back you will find yourself infected by the simplicity in their life and their satisfaction of everything.
